Pope’s brother says Pontiff pondered resignation for several months
Pope Benedict XVI with his brother Msgr Georg Ratzinger
Pope Benedict’s brother has told reporters that the Pontiff pondered over a period of several months his surprise decision to resign.
“He has been thinking about it for several months,” said Msgr. Georg Ratzinger. “He concluded that his powers are falling victim to age” and that the Pope “feels that a younger person is needed to deal with the problems of the times.”
Reports of “intrigues are a fairy tale,” he added. “There were no intrigues against him.”
